Sudan Call: May 2025 Community Recovery & Empowerment Initiative

On 25 May, Basmatie vzw took an important step forward in its humanitarian mission by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sakinah Institute for Children with Disabilities. This milestone partnership opens the doors for Basmatie to use the institute’s spacious facilities to expand community-centered projects aimed at supporting vulnerable children and women.
With access to this large and multifunctional building, Basmatie is now developing a series of initiatives focused on healing, empowerment, and long-term growth. The organization is preparing programs that support children and women in trauma processing, offering safe spaces and structured activities to rebuild confidence and emotional well-being. Sports sessions for children will provide both physical activity and social engagement, while women will have the opportunity to learn practical skills such as sewing, cooking, and computer literacy skills that can open pathways to independence and economic stability.
In addition to these community programs, Basmatie is launching a mobile clinic that will eventually transform into a permanent medical facility within a dedicated section of the building. The center’s size makes it possible to integrate medical services, educational activities, and community support under one roof. There are also early plans to establish an Islamic school within the mosque area of the institute, providing children with a nurturing environment for religious and moral education.
This collaboration with the Sakinah Institute marks a new chapter for Basmatie vzw a collective effort to build resilience, create opportunities, and bring meaningful change to families who need it most.
