Sudan Call: Essentials for Children with Cancer

This was one of Basmatie VZW’s earliest humanitarian initiatives, launched in March 2018. Led by youth volunteers and overseen by the organization's founders, the project focused on supporting children undergoing cancer treatment in Sudan. The Sudanese community in Ghent united to collect and package essential supplies, including clothing, stationery, and art materials.

Beyond donations, this initiative carried a heartfelt touch—children in Belgium created drawings and messages of encouragement for their peers in Sudan. Volunteers worked tirelessly to sort, iron, and perfume the clothing, ensuring each package felt like a gift of care and solidarity. Thanks to community-wide efforts, multiple suitcases filled with clothes and creative supplies were sent to "Juwana Amal", a medical center and non profit organisation dedicated to treating children with cancer in Sudan. This partnership ensured the donations reached those in need, bringing comfort and joy to young patients during their treatment.
