Sudan Call: Emergency Aid for War Victims

Sudan Call: Emergency Aid for War Victims was a large-scale humanitarian effort launched in May 2023 to provide urgent relief to displaced families affected by the war in Sudan. As one of the first initiatives of its kind in Belgium, this project mobilized the Sudanese community in Ghent to collect and ship essential supplies. Volunteers, led by youth organizers, reached out through social media, flyers, and word of mouth, gathering an overwhelming number of donations, including clothes and vital medical equipment like wheelchairs and walking aids.

The entire community came together—parents, children, and young adults—actively participating in sorting, folding, ironing, and packaging the donations. A partnership with Eiman VZW further strengthened the initiative, ensuring a well-organized and efficient effort. People contributed in various ways, from selling snacks and drinks to funding medical supplies. Ultimately, the project successfully filled and shipped a full container of aid, which safely reached Sudan and was distributed to those in dire need, providing tangible relief to countless families.
